Colorful Lore

On Fictional Hangover this week, Claire and I talked about Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe. It's so colorful and so pretty and so cute! We only talked about the first published book, though, not the entirety of web comic, so don't spoil it for us!

In this first bit of the story, Hades sees Persephone at a party and thinks she's cute. Jealous Aphrodite plays a prank that ends up with Persephone drunk in the backseat of Hades' car, and instead of being a jerk about it, he takes care of the young goddess and crush-like feelings begin to bud between the two. They part ways, but keep thinking about each other until the end of the story when Hades realizes Persephone's been texting him and he calls her up. It's just the very beginning of the love story between the two and it's really adorable, even though some pretty terrible stuff happens, too. While romance is definitely not my favorite thing, I can admit to loving the illustrations and thinking it's the beginning to a great story. I can't wait to see what happens next!

The illustrations in this graphic novel are amazing. Each god or goddess is a different color and the heavy outlines and details thrown in really make the story special. Rachel could tell a story with colors alone I think. There's a bit where Eros is retelling something that happened to him and the story is quite depressing and the pages of the book turn black during that segment. It's just so stunning. For more details, listen to our episode, read the book/webtoon and check out our summary.

Here's a recording picture in which we are about to talk about how good of a doggo Cerberus is.

Until next week,

Amanda
