In this week's episode of the show, Claire and I are joined by Literary Lushes Podcast and discuss the Choose Your Own Adventure novel Try Not to Die at Grandma's House by Mark Tullius and Anthony Szpak. This is another Indie Spotlight book for our monthly theme! We had a ton of fun chatting with Literary Lushes because they're great. You should check out their show! They'll have an episode out about this book soon, too, so be on the lookout! They also make drinks to go along with the books that they discuss and this one was a Choose Your Own Adventure style.
This book was terrible and fun and full of gruesome and ridiculous deaths, so, you know, right up my alley. You, the reader, are David and you must help your sister, Sam, survive at your grandparents' house. But why is their house so dangerous? Well, there are terrifying creatures that crawl out of the woods at night, there's some sort of bear monster out there, too, and there are lots of dangerous falls and car crashes and sizzling evaporations to avoid. All you have to do is not die, but it's difficult, and just when you think you've made the correct choice, you violently perish and have to backtrack. It's a ton of fun, so you should definitely check it out, read our summary and listen to the episode.
