Red, White and Royal Blue

Updated: Sep 4, 2019

In this episode of the show, we discuss Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston.

It's an adorable book that really makes me wish I lived in the alternate universe it takes place in. The United States seems like a much happier place in this book and if you disagree, you're clearly insane.

Alex Claremont-Diaz is the First Son of the United States. His MOTHER, Ellen Claremont, is the PRESIDENT, a democrat from TEXAS and she's delightful. Alex and his sister, June, although in their 20s, live in the White House with their mother and stepfather. While this makes for a great story, wait, there's more!

Alex has an archnemesis, Prince Henry, whose grandmother is Queen Mary, the current queen of England. Alex believes Henry to be his archnemesis because he's handsome and basically Prince Charming. Alex is also charming and handsome, so really, why are they enemies? Oh, because they're crushing on each other, except that Alex doesn't really realize it. How can he have a crush on a guy, much less the Prince of England? I mean... he's a guy. They're both guys! What?! The First Son and the Prince... how will that ever work out?

READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT BECAUSE LIKE I SAID BEFORE IT'S ADORABLE!

Here's our recording picture for this week. I invited my friend Stephanie to join us for WYR because she inspired me to read this book. These pictures didn't happen at the same time, just so you know. Otherwise, that would be an odd discussion.

Farewell,

Amanda
