In our episode this week, we talk about Into the Mist by PC Cast and she joins us in a bonus episode for a game of Would You Rather and a chat about the book. I just love PC and Into the Mist is one of my favorite books that I've read so far this year. I listened to the audiobook three times back to back to back. Lorelei King, the narrator, did a fantastic job!
The is an apocalypse novel, but it's not your typical oh-shit-it's-the-apocalypse-everybody-freak-out sort of book. The main characters, Mercury and Stella, are high school teachers who take control of their terrible situation when people around them are literally turning into puddles. After leaving a teaching conference, these two, plus a handful of others, are driving through Oregon when they see bombs falling from the sky. When the bombs land, a green mist rolls out that has devastating and not-so-devastating effects. Some people die. Some people don't. It's a good thing that Mercury and Stella are on the don't-die side. They meet up with some other survivors, gather up a found family, and figure out just what they need to do to survive the end of the world, and maybe even make it a better place than it was before.
