Liars, Liars, Pants on Fire?

I was about to say... there's no pants fire in this next book that we discuss on the show, but then, I would be a liar, too. Wouldn't I? Or would I? Who knows? I could be lying now. You never know. I might be the perfect person who never, ever lies about anything. Actually, I just wanted to use a clever title since we're discussing We Were Liars and liar, liar pants on fire is the best I could come up with. So... not clever at all, really.

Well, whatever. We just discussed We Were Liars by E. Lockhart on episode 35 of the show. You should listen to it, but seriously, only if you've read the book because there are MAJOR SPOILERS, mostly because this book has an epic twist and it's really great and totally unexpected. Although... are you expecting it now? Still, you'll never guess. If you do guess the spoiler, I'll send you a Fictional Hangover button.

So in this book, Cadence Sinclair goes to her family's private island every summer with the rest of her family and gets to hang out with her cousins, Johnny and Mirren, all summer long. Then Johnny starts bringing his friend Gat along, so now there's four of them and they are known as The Liars. If you couldn't tell by the family's private island line earlier, the Sinclairs are super wealthy. They're also pretty terrible. All they care about is their inheritance, who's getting which house when granddad finally dies? Who's getting the pearls? Who's getting whatever other super expensive thing they have? The cousins aren't like that though, but they're getting thrown into the middle of it all by their mothers who want them to tell their granddad that they love him the most and therefore they should get the best stuff. Sounds great, right? Well, that's not even the worst thing! There's a terrible accident one night and now Cady can't remember anything.

Here's our recording picture for this episode. Notice I didn't dress up this time. It's kind of difficult to dress up as a contemporary character from a realistic fiction book, especially this one, so I didn't.

Don't eat anything bigger than your ass,

Amanda
