House of Night, Y'all

This episode of the show is super long because it's about THREE books: Marked, Betrayed and Chosen, the first three books of the House of Night series, by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast.

It's so funny that we decided to talk about this series because, I swear, one week after we put it on the schedule, P.C. Cast announced on all her social media that House of Night is FINALLY being made into a TV series. Guys, you do not know how long I've been waiting for this. This series started in 2007 and well, there were already another couple of vampire series around at that time and I LOVE YA VAMPIRE BOOKS, so of course I had to read it first thing. Marked came out in May of 2007, and by that time, I had already read the first two Twilight books, so I started this one and fell in love. Then Eclipse came out in August, and another one of my favorites, Vampire Academy also came out in August, then the SECOND HoN book came out in October! Two books in one year? Yes please! That train kept coming, mostly two books a year with the exception of a couple, until book TWELVE came out in 2014. Now there's a four-book spin-off happening, the third of which just came out at the end of October. Of this year! Gosh these books are so great. AND NOW! THERE'S FINALLY GOING TO BE A TV SERIES. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself.

Okay, so really, let me be honest. Just like all other YA vampire books, these are a little bit ridiculous. A little bit trashy. BUT OH MY GOSH I LOVE THEM. Sorry I keep shouting, but seriously. I love these books. But why? What are they about?

Zoey has been Marked by a vampyre tracker and must leave her small town high school in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and move to the vampyre boarding school, the House of Night, in Tulsa or she'll die. She's not a vampyre yet, but a vampyre fledgling, and must learn all about her new life at this new school. She attends classes about vampyre history and vampyre sociology taught by fully grown vampyres with beautiful crescent moon tattoos and other intricate designs on their faces. When she's Marked, Zoey just has the outline of a moon on her forehead, but when she's greeted by the Vampyre Goddess, Nyx, and made her eyes and ears in the modern world, Zoey's mark gets filled in. That has never happened before. And she also has an affinity for all five elements, something else that has never, ever happened before. Zoey is special, and in time, she'll come to see just how special she really is. She's got to grow up a little bit first.

Are you curious? You've got a huge stack of books to work through! They'll keep you busy for at least a week or two... if you can manage to put them down.

Here's our recording picture for this episode. Hey look! My glasses are finally gone! But oh no, no eye makeup? What's going on here? I had Lasik surgery and had to go without eye makeup for an entire week. That is utterly ridiculous for me as I've worn makeup every day for as long as I can remember. At least since middle school. That's a long time because I'm old. Later this week, I'm going to play in my makeup again for the first book character cosplay in a little while and probably channel Zoey Redbird with her beautiful sapphire facial tattoos. We'll see.

Anyway, here's our picture. Look at Claire, cute as always, while I'm a makeupless hag. Claire is such a good friend, making ridiculous faces with me. I think I'm going to keep her.

That's enough for now.
